Fab Trend: Rhinestone Necklaces

On a recent trip to Forever 21, I was amazed by how much sparkle there was in the jewelry section. There were oversized necklaces galore, adorned with huge colorful rhinestones. I picked up a necklace (see above) and wasn't even sure myself if I could pull it off without looking like I was trying too hard. I consulted in my shopping buddy and she said to go for it. The first time I wore it out, I instantly covered it with a blazer because I just thought it was too much (I am not always the most brave when it comes to new trends!). However, this past weekend, I decided to venture and try it out when I went shopping. I wore it with a plain black tee and dark washed jeans (nothing else. No watch, no ring, not even small studded earrings). The verdict? Positive! I had four random people compliment the necklace and I felt better about wearing it out. So, I encourage you to wear that huge sparkly necklace and stand out from the crowd! Below are some more options, which can all be found at Forever 21. If you still feel like these necklaces are too much, then try for a smaller option (first image below).

Shoe Spotlight: Louis Vuitton Tribal Heels

I recently passed by a Louis Vuitton store and was captivated by this Madonna ad in their store window. Yes, she looks amazing and she really captures the Louis Vuitton spirit--but that wasn't what drew me to the photo. These 4.5 inch tribal heels from the Spring/Summer 2009 fashion show made me want to splurge on the steep $1,540 price tag. I've noticed that many celebs such as Victoria Beckham (seen in the black) and Misha Barton (seen in the red) have been spotted wearing these show stopping beaded and feathered heels. I personally would prefer the red ones because I believe it is designed better and I just simply love the vibrant colors. What do you think?

What I Want Now: The Swacket

I was browsing the internet and stumbled across the Swacket (sweater+jacket combined) by Harputs OWN. This usually isn't my style, but I am intrigued that you can create so many different looks using one garment. There are only 4 sets of snaps so you can wear it multiple ways, and it comes in my favorite color for the fall season--charcoal gray. However, the only thing that is keeping me from purchasing it is the price ($445). Below are some of the looks that you can create with this garment. How trendy! Perhaps one day I can get my hands on the Swacket!

The Look for Less: Amanda Bynes

A lot of the young celebs have been spotted wearing the Herve Leger bandage dress. This form fitting dress really shows off a woman's curves and it's quite flattering on Amanda Bynes. I'm digging the bright pink dress which is very appropriate for Spring, but not so much the price--it's a whopping $1,350! I love how she keeps it simple and completes the look with basic black Christian Louboutins peep-toe pumps ($795) and a gold clutch. However, I'm not willing to spend over $2,000 on an outfit. So, here is what I found (Click on images to be redirected to the website):

-2 different bandage dresses by Marciano. One is very similar to the one that Amanda Bynes is sporting, but the other has a sexy over-the-shoulder strap. The best thing is, they are only $128!
-Black peep-toe pumps by Guess? on sale for $69.30
-Gold clutch by Nine West on sale for $19.99

Total cost of the outfit: $217.38. You save: $2,000!

Fab Trend: Military Jackets

I'm always looking for an updated look or a new style to clothing, so it was a matter of time before I discovered the military jacket. I know this has been featured in several runway shows in the past, but it took a while for me to fully embrace this trend. I love the balance of the strong and structured, yet feminine style of these jackets. You can pair them with skinny jeans or even a voluminous skirt. Either way, you are bound to look like you are ready to take on the world in your suit of armor!

Word of the Day: Raglan Sleeve

Raglan Sleeve-A raglan sleeve is often used when making items of clothing such as sweatshirts, certain types of jerseys and other sportswear. The construction is different from that of typical shirt sleeves, because the raglan sleeve has a seam that goes from the underarm straight to the neckline. A raglan sleeve is only one piece, instead of several pieces sewn together and attached to the shell of the garment. This style makes shirts easy to move around in and very comfortable. There is no shoulder seam in a garment with a raglan sleeve.

Word of the Day: Balmacaan

bal·ma·caan n.-A loose, full overcoat with raglan sleeves, designed to be worn over layers of clothing as protective gear.

Fashion Scene: FabSugar's "Worn to be Wild" Event

Last week, I attended an event hosted by FabSugar called "Worn to Be Wild," which took place at Saks Fifth Avenue in San Francisco. All guests were treated to a discount shopping card, cocktails, and even got a chance to win some fabulous prizes. Although I didn't win the coveted Marc by Marc Jacobs tote, I was interested in seeing Samantha Durbin's (Editor-in-Chief of FabSugar) top picks for Spring. Some of the trends that were showcased were metallics, geometric prints, jumpsuits, florals, and the "disheveled chic" style. The main point of the presentation was to wear bold colors and prints and to not be afraid to mix it up. Dare to be different!

Valentino: The Last Emperor

I had the pleasure of watching the documentary, Valentino: The Last Emperor today in San Francisco. I had no idea what the film was going to be about; in fact, I didn't even know it was a documentary! However, as the opening scenes of his past couture fashion shows flashed across the screen, I was instantly drawn into the world of Valentino Garavani. The film delves into the lavish lifestyle of Valentino, his partner Giancarlo Giammetti, and their exclusive inner circle. The film paints an intimate portrait of a controlling, yet funny; diva-esque, yet endearing Valentino and I couldn't get enough! All in all, the film was very poignant and touching and I could really feel Valentino's simple passion of making clothes for women and to "make them feel beautiful." What I Want Now: Handbags Galore!

Some people prefer brand named clothing, others shoes, but me--I have always had a love affair with handbags. I have told my mom, grandma, and aunt (who, combined, have so many handbags, they can open up a boutique) to save all their bags so that one day, I can inherit them and build a closet and line them up alphabetically by brand. I know it may sound a bit neurotic, but I really enjoy beautiful things, and to have a collection is a personal fashion dream of mine. Below, I have comprised a list of the top 5 bags that I have been eyeing for quite some time. Some are new this season, while others are old styles or classics. Perhaps one day, I will be able to afford them! A girl can only dream.

$2,350

The Look for Less: Taylor Momsen

On Monday night's episode of Gossip Girl, Jenny Humphrey turned 16! She received this beautiful shimmery Missoni dress, but in true Jenny fashion, she styled it with a black motorcycle jacket and her woven black and gold chain bracelet to add her own rocker-inspired vibe. I decided to do some shopping to create the look for less. Although I do not know the price of her outfit, I can guess that it costs more than $800 given that she is wearing a Missoni dress. Here is what I found:

-Motorcycle Jacket: Black side-zip jacket for $39.99
-Black Tights: ASSETS by Sara Blakely for $12.00
-Metallic clutch: Basket-weave style for $29.00
-Bracelet: Woven leather and gold chain for $12.99.
-Earrings: Woven coin earrings for $4.00
-Shoes: Pink iridescent patent leather pumps for $143.00
-Dress: I have 3 options available (from left to right)
#1: Tight Sequin beaded dress for $98.
#2: Metallic halter dress for $198.
#3: Gold shift dress for $175

Total look (not including the dress) is $241.00. Nevertheless, the maximum amount spent is still less than $500. Click on images below to see where you can purchase them!
