5 Spring Essentials

The weather has been sunny and warm this week, which is a nice departure from rainy and dreary. I found myself in a sweater today and was perspiring as I was walking to my car. I guess I have to start getting used to this Spring season. Things I'm looking forward to? Shorts, wedges, sheer tops, dresses without tights, and bright accessories. Here are the top 5 things I'm currently loving for Spring: scalloped shorts, floral tops, coral handbag, gold Sperry topsiders, and a colorful Egyptian cuff. All, great pieces for Spring!

Apartment a la California

I decided to play around with my camera (by the way, it's a Canon Powershot SX30 IS) and took some random shots of my apartment. I'm currently reading the manual, and have only made it to page 21 out of 196. I still have a long ways to go. Even though we've lived in our apartment for almost four months, we still haven't finished decorating it. It's all a working progress for now. Currently, we're in search of a shelf for the living room, a bench for the foyer, and some rugs to help mask the sound that my 4 inch heels make in the morning as I get ready for work. Sorry neighbors! Welcome to our humble abode...

Love my Vanity Fair--first step? Trying to fix the date on that darn thing!

Look for Less: The Oxford Wedge

I was sitting in my 11am Monday morning meeting, people watching as usual, and saw a girl wearing these cute suede oxford wedges. Oxfords are definitely one of those things that I appreciate, but couldn't pull off, mainly because they are flat. I am all about heels. It's a problem when your friends call and tell you to not wear heels to your next girls outing. However, I think I can wear these oxfords since they have a good 4 inch platform to them. Although these Dolce Vita's are not super expensive ($89), I like to save my money when I can, so I found a great alternative from overstock.com for only $32.99. I'll take 'em!

Accessories: Men's Edition

I remember watching Anna Wintour on David Letterman a few years ago, and she referenced how men's designer Thom Browne showcased short trousers, so men are able to show off their socks. I've heard a lot of men complain about not being able to accessorize with a suit. Well, I beg to differ. Not only are there ties to spruce up a boring old suit, but also, whimsical cuff links, colored socks, and patterned pocket squares can add the perfect touch. Here are some great additions that I love for men to don to create that great sartorial style:

Colored dress socks

 cuff links

pocket squares
last but not least, patterend/colored ties

Paris Fashion Week: Hermes 2011

I am so incredibly behind on anything related to Fashion Week. Had some time today to browse through some collections and I came across Hermes Fall 2011. As much as I am an advocate for black, it was nice to see Hermes incorporate some deep, rich colors and elements of geometry in its collection.

Daily Regimen

Makeout Routine

Let's be frank--I am not a fan of caked-on, hot tranny mess makeup. Not only does it make you look older, but don't you want to look somewhat the same when you're unmasked? Needless to say, I like to keep it as effortless and natural as possible. Here is my daily makeup routine (and believe it or not, it only takes me 10 minutes every morning):

For the Face:
I discovered Armani foundation a few weeks back and it feels amazing. Every time I wear it, my mom thinks I've been airbrushed; and my skin isn't that great! I put some concealer, dab some MAC powder, apply a few dots of High Beam, and finish it off with some Coralista powder.

For the Eyes:
I first use some concealer around the eyes, just to brighten them up, dab some MAC eye primer, then dust some Dior eyeshadow. I like light browns, and pinks for everyday use. I use Revlon liquid liner along the top of my eyelashes and L'Oreal liquid eye pencil on the bottom lashes. This L'Oreal liquid pencil gets an A+ in my book. Not only is it inexpensive, but it doesn't smudge! I finish my eyes off with some BadGal mascara.

For the Lips:
I usually just put on some Rosebud, and use NARS "Misbehave." Since it's a shimmery with hints of red, I do a quick sweep and smack my lips against my hand to get some of the color off.

Viola! Now I'm ready for the day!

Lights...Camera...Action!

I celebrated my birthday yesterday in which I had dinner at a restaurant called Baker and Banker and received a fantastic gift--a camera! I literally cried when I received it. It's probably one of the more thoughtful gifts someone has given to me. This blog is a personal accomplishment of mine, and to get something in support of this blog (even though I've been wishy washy lately about it) means the world. Everyone knows I've been taking pictures with my mother's digital camera; and since I moved out to live in San Francisco, I have been camera-less for many many months. I absolutely can't wait to figure out how to operate this thing and start posting some better quality pics on this blog. Below are some pics of my initial reaction with the new camera. Side note: why does my room look crooked? Anyways, stay tuned for posts with pics from the cam!

Mood Ring

Had a great meal with some great friends at Tyler Florence's Wayfare Tavern in the Financial District for a pre-birthday meal. I received an amazing piece of jewelry from a friend. I've been wanting this ring for months and this will be something I will definitely wear everyday. This past year has been quite interesting, but yet, I still feel truly blessed for everything that has happened in the last 365 days. Never take things for granted and always be grateful for everything. With that being said, here's to new beginnings and to a new season--Spring!

Recent Purchase: Sequin Mesh Bell Skirt from J.Crew

I have been eying this J. Crew skirt for at least 8 months, and when I saw it on Cupcakes and Cashmere here and here, I wanted it even more. I've been searching for this online and found the oyster colored one (top image) for an additional 30% off. Don't let sequins fool you-they are so versatile you can wear them during the day with a jean jacket (I'll be wearing mine with my Levi's!), brown belt, and gray tee or with heels and a tucked-in billowy top for the evening. Can't wait to get this little gem in the mail!

The Look for Less: Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba was spotted running errands in LA sporting a Topshop floral top, Miu Miu wedges, and a Anya Hindmarch bag retailing at least $1400. Although the overall outfit is great, I opt for the "look for less" and shopped a similar outfit below for a total of $352 (including the bag and shoes!)
