Milan Fashion Week Fall 2009: Marni

Marni's chief designer Consuelo Castiglioni founded the fashion label only in 1994, but within 15 years, Marni has become a respected fashion brand, with clothing sold in over sixteen countries and annual sales well over $100 million. While going through Marni's Fall 2009 collection, I couldn't help but notice the huge necklaces made of colorful flowers and crystals that the models adorned. Talk about statement jewelry! I feel like they complemented each piece of clothing well and really added color and texture to each outfit. Each piece of clothing whether it be jackets, skirts, or dresses were crafted beautifully and I loved how there was so much texture, which really translated what seems to be a plain dress into something more. Although her color palette was fairly standard with beige, black, and gray, her textural style really transcended the clothing. I really recommend zooming in on those images so you can see what I'm talking about. To view Marni's collection, click here.

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2009: Zuhair Murad

Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad is relatively new to the fashion scene, but has clearly made his mark on the red carpet by dressing celebs such as Miley Cyrus (remember her glittery petal dress at the recent Academy Awards?) and Carrie Underwood. His Fall 2009 collection was filled with grecian influences, draping/ruching techniques, different silhouettes, and various colors such as emerald green, ruby red, and bright orange. The black and white scaly looking dress below reminded me a lot of the Jean Paul Gaultier dress that Oscar winner Marion Cotillard wore to the 2008 Academy Awards. I think it would have been more appropriate for Miley Cyrus to wear this dress rather than the one she wore to the Oscars. It's simple, chic, and fresh, especially for the 16-year old. I also think the nude jewel-toned halter dress is better suited for Miley because it's not over the top, young-looking and girly. Overall, I really enjoyed Zuhair Murad's collection. It incorporated different colors, fine details, and various silhouettes which will flatter any body shape. To view some of Zuhair Murad's pieces, click here.

The Look for Less: Lauren Conrad

The Hills star Lauren Conrad was spotted in LA filming for the upcoming season of her show. Again, I am all about simple clothes, and Lauren looks cute and refreshing in this basic tank, Rag and Bone skirt and black suede Christian Louboutin pumps. However, don't let this simple outfit fool you! Her skirt costs about $300 and her shoes are $575. This is a perfect outfit for a lunch date with a friend on a summery afternoon! I put a look together, all for $110. The Guess black suede pumps were the most expensive item costing $75, but if you find cheaper shoes, you can definitely pull this entire look off for under $75. All the rest of the items were from Forever 21, which were all inexpensive. If you want to add to this look, you can wear it with a cardigan or a fitted blazer to take this outfit from day to evening. [image source: fabsugar.com]
