Fashion Tip Of the Day: How to Wear Fur

Align Center
With the Fall season in full swing, I have never seen so much fur (faux fur that is!) in so many retail stores. Who doesn't want to feel warm and fuzzy in this colder weather? A few weeks ago, my friend and I took a little trip to Target and had some fun trying on these fur vests. Needless to say, I don't think we will jump on this trend anytime soon. Wearing fur can be a little bit tricky, as it can be a overpowering and tacky if not worn correctly. So how does one own the look and not looking like Chewbacca? Here are some tips on wearing this trend well:

1. Don't Wear Bulky Things
Fur will add some bulk on top, so always pair this look with a fitted bottom. I suggest a really simple outfit- a tee, fitted dark wash skinny jean and flat heeled boots.

2. Don't Overdo It
If you think a fur vest is too overpowering, then you can opt for a subtle approach, like a vest with a fur collar, instead of wearing the entire look. That way, you will still embrace the trend and look fashionable.

3. Vests vs. Coats?
I suggest wearing a cropped fur jacket or a vest. A full on fur jacket with long sleeves is just a little too much fuzz for me.

However you wear the look, just remember, keep it simple! Will you be trying out fur this season?

Fashion Tip of the Day: Quick Fix for Oily Hair

I honestly can't wash my hair every single day because it just becomes limp. However, in between washes, my hair can get a tad oily. The solution? Baby powder. I pour some in my hands in the morning and work it into my scalp to absorb the oil and give it some extra umph. I receive the Rachel Zoe report, so I was excited to see her alternative to baby powder, called The All Nighter. The plus about the styling powder is that it comes in different colors to match your hair color. However, I don't know if I want to spend $18 on a product when I can buy baby powder for a whopping 99 cents. Whatever you use, a powder is a great solution to make your hair look fabulous-even in between washes!

Fashion Tip of the Day: How to Wear Monochrome outfits

Although I'm an advocate of mixing colors and having variation in your wardrobe, I do like to turn to monochrome attire from time to time. Some critics can view this as a bore, but sometimes, going back to basics can be the best fashion choice. Wearing one color can be far from uninspiring; in fact, many designers such as Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren make monochrome appear chic and sophisticated on the runways. Here are some tips to pulling off monochrome without looking like a fashion disaster!

1. Mix textures/styles
Although wearing monochrome can make an outfit appear to fall flat, this can be prevented by wearing clothing with different textures and styles. Embellishments such as draping, ruffles, rouching, pleats, etc...can instantly turn something ordinary to chic. Pair a black rouched top, black jeans, and a black boyfriend blazer. The detailing of the top and the shape of the blazer will give it an element of style. It may seem simple, but simple can be so good!

2. Experiment with Different Hues.
Who says monochrome means sticking to one specific color? Experimenting with different shades will definitely give your outfit variety and prevent it from looking too matchy-matchy. To be safe, experiment with neutral colors such as whites, nudes, and tans. For example, if you're wearing an all gray ensemble, veer away from donning the same hue from head to toe. Instead, opt for different shades of gray to create some contrast. Charcoal skinny jeans, a heather gray tee, and light gray heels is a great combination of mixing light colors with dark ones.

3. Accessories
The simplest solution to add that "something extra" to that outfit is accessories. Whether it be a bright bold bag with an all white maxi dress, or a aquamarine crystal bib necklace paired with a nude colored bandage dress, accessorizing is a guarantee to prevent you from looking boring. However, it is possible to accessorize monochrome as well. Isla Fisher is able to accessorize within the same color palette. She counters her flirty light gray dress with a chunky, hard-metal bib necklace. On the flipside, Angelina Jolie does it right by wearing small gold hooped earrings to slightly accent her cool blue dress. Sometimes keeping accessories to a minimum shows the full effect of your outfit. Use your best judgment!

Fashion Tip of the Day: The Perfect Pant Length

Women: a good length is about a 1/2 inch from the floor. You want the pants to just skim the surface of the ground when standing up straight. This length will elongate your legs and make you appear taller and slimmer. However, many of us girls have several shoes that vary from flats to 4-inch heels. So the question is, what to do? I would recommend having various pant lengths to accommodate your various heels. Also, since skinny jeans are in, you can wear them with both heels and flats without worrying about heel heights, since they work for both!

Men: Before I delve into men's pant lengths, let's cover some basic vocabulary. The "break" (according to AskMen.com) is where your pants fall on your shoes, creating a horizontal crease in the fabric across the front of your pant leg. The golden rule is for the pants hems to finish with a single break (generally speaking) at the front of the shoe. In the back, the hem should end where the heel meets the lower back of the shoe.

Fashion Tip of the Day: How to Prevent Blisters

Every time I buy a new pair of heels, I can not wait to wear them out! However, I dread the process of breaking them in because that always leads to blisters on my feet. So, what is a girl to do? Wear band-aids? I hate wearing band-aids on my feet because 1. they always fall off and 2. they're not the most fashionable things to sport when you're wearing a nice pair of stilettos. For those of you that don't know me, I try to wear heels as often as possible. So, I've been getting a lot of questions as to how I can wear them without blisters from forming. My secret? Vaseline or Chapstick. Before I put on my shoes, I rub a little vaseline on the areas on my feet where I know the shoes will irritate me most. Then I carry some chapstick (strictly for my feet! I carry a separate one for my lips!) and reapply if needed or if there are some new spots where you can start feeling the blisters form. Now that I have this little trick, I no longer have blisters on my feet, unless of course, I forget to apply vaseline or chapstick, then I'm doomed! I swear by this trick, and encourage you to try it! Your feet will thank you for it!
