Happy Thanksgiving!

Wishing you all a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

I was at work yesterday and a co-worker showed me these really cute aprons that she found in a magazine. They came in so many colors, patterns, and the best thing was that they didn't look matronly! In fact, they looked like dresses I would wear everyday. I found these adorable aprons from Anthropologie. Who says you can't cook and serve your Turkey in style?

Spotlight On: Photographer Mark Shaw

I started off the day googling various images of Jackie Kennedy: that iconic First Lady in which everyone strives to be. I noticed that the name "Mark Shaw" appeared in a lot of the results and started some investigating. Shaw is most famous for shooting family pictures of the First Family. He worked with LIFE magazine for 16 years and within that time frame, has shot 27 covers, and over 100 stories. He has also worked with reputable publications such as Harper's Bazaar and Mademoiselle and has shot the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Pablo Picasso, Cary Grant, Elizabeth Taylor, Coco Chanel, and Yves Saint Laurent, just to name a few. There are so many beautiful pictures that I found captivating, but here are a few of my favorites below:

I Would Walk 500 Miles

Over the past 3 months, I have rededicated myself to going to the gym. I now go 4 times a week and I am feeling good! I can't stand running on a treadmill for an hour straight; I get so restless that I leave after a mere half hour. I soon discovered Zumba, a Latin-inspired dance fitness class, and was instantly hooked. I actually look forward to go to the gym and I guarantee once you go to Zumba you will feel the same way. With Zumba classes, Turbo Kick Boxing class, and some running, it is understandable that my shoes have worn out fast.

Last weekend, I was on a quest to find new shoes. However, nothing really fit my budget, nor the aesthetic that I wanted. It seems that everything that piqued my interest was well over $100--don't you hate it when that happens? For the time being, I have found some bright and colorful shoes that I would totally sport at the gym!

On My TV Radar: Styl'd

Top Row (l-r): Senior Stylists Eric Archibald, Jen Rade, Julie Weiss
Bottom Row (l-r): Junior Stylists Brett Nelson, Janna Brown, Gary Samuelian, Cody Conti, Tara Ahmadi

I was a little weary about a fashion-type of show on MTV, but as soon as I tuned into Styl'd, I was instantly hooked. Styl'd follows 5 junior aspiring stylists who are competing for a chance to win a contract with MMA (Margaret Maldonado Agengy). The three senior stylists, with whom are their mentors and ultimately their bosses are Jen Rade, Julie Weiss, and Eric Archibald. I love the drama, the bitchiness, and of course, the clothes and the celebrities that they dress.

Some highlights so far:
  • Brett takes a side job with one of Julie's clients and borrows clothes from Kitson Men's using her name. Yikes! His only downfall was when he told Janna about it. I get where he's coming from. I would be tempted to do the same thing. However, Janna threw him under the bus, got him fired, and didn't even own up to the fact that she told on him! I think tonight they will give him another chance and hire him back. Let's cross our fingers!
  • Brett's replacement is Cody, who's mother was VP of Versace. Talk about some fashion clout!
  • Last week's episode, they had to do a photo shoot up a canyon, where Janna and Gary were stuck pulling rolling racks up a steep mountain. Janna got sick, threw up, and even got attacked by a dog.
  • Tara pulled the winning look for Colbie Caillat for a red carpet event last week
  • Gary continues to get in trouble for not having proper "set-iquette." He tends to give tons of opinions to clients while on set. However, he continues to be my favorite junior stylist. So funny, personable, and talented! Girl can dress me any day!
Catch Styl'd --Tuesday nights on MTV at 11pm.

Random Musings: Dakota Fanning, Lady Gaga, & Sweatpants, Oh My!

I went to a housewarming party tonight, and although it was quite a trek to get there, I had a great time socializing with co-workers and eating amazing hors d'oeuvres (mini scallops on top of yams, beef short ribs, mini spring rolls, etc). I came home about 9:30pm, found myself with an intense migraine, and promptly went to bed. Here it is, 3:30am and I am wide awake.

Might as well blog, right?

Here are some random musings from the week:

1. I read last week that Dakota Fanning was named as princess of her Homecoming Court. The first thing that crossed my mind was, "she still goes to a regular high school?" It's so nice to see an A-list actress still leading a normal life. She recently was featured in a Teen Vogue photo shoot, and here are some pictures below. I can't believe she is only 15 years old.

2. I am a huge fan of Lady Gaga. She never bores me! While I was getting ready for the party tonight, I found myself repeating the Bad Romance video on You Tube several times (at least 8 times). Around the 3:30 mark she wears the daring Alexander McQueen. She totally works it! They should make babies together. Check it out below:

3. Sweatpants?
I got my new issue of Lucky Magazine in the mail, and I saw something shocking: advocating sweatpants in public! What?! I must say, they look good on the models, but I think I will leave this trend alone. Would you don sweatpants and a blazer?

I Want This: Reese Witherspoon InStyle Cover Look

Sorry I haven't been blogging lately. I have been sick (and still feeling a bit under the weather) and have been out of commission. It's holiday season, and work has been absolutely crazy. It leaves me burnt out and all I want to do is just lay in bed and channel surf all night. I was at a friend's house last week and saw her InStyle magazine with Reese Witherspoon on the cover, looking super cute as usual. I immediately looked for the dress she is wearing, and found that it's the "Sweetheart" gold dress by DKNY. It can be found at Bloomingdales and retails for $345. I definitely would like to wear this soft metallic dress, paired with a boyfriend blazer, to a holiday party. Now, if only I can get my hands on one!

Fashion Tip Of the Day: How to Wear Fur

Align Center
With the Fall season in full swing, I have never seen so much fur (faux fur that is!) in so many retail stores. Who doesn't want to feel warm and fuzzy in this colder weather? A few weeks ago, my friend and I took a little trip to Target and had some fun trying on these fur vests. Needless to say, I don't think we will jump on this trend anytime soon. Wearing fur can be a little bit tricky, as it can be a overpowering and tacky if not worn correctly. So how does one own the look and not looking like Chewbacca? Here are some tips on wearing this trend well:

1. Don't Wear Bulky Things
Fur will add some bulk on top, so always pair this look with a fitted bottom. I suggest a really simple outfit- a tee, fitted dark wash skinny jean and flat heeled boots.

2. Don't Overdo It
If you think a fur vest is too overpowering, then you can opt for a subtle approach, like a vest with a fur collar, instead of wearing the entire look. That way, you will still embrace the trend and look fashionable.

3. Vests vs. Coats?
I suggest wearing a cropped fur jacket or a vest. A full on fur jacket with long sleeves is just a little too much fuzz for me.

However you wear the look, just remember, keep it simple! Will you be trying out fur this season?
