Expensive Taste

Discovered Google's Picassa and have been obsessing with putting collages together. However, I'm still trying to figure out how to make these images bigger so people can see what I'm talking about! But for now, you can click on the actual image to enlarge it. Just finished watching the second episode of the Rachel Zoe Project on Bravo, and I was inspired to do some browsing. I'm currently loving some sparkle, everything black and sleek, and deep purples. I have been coveting some of these things, and I wish I could buy all of them.

Word of the Day: Dolman Sleeve

Dolman Sleeve-a kind of sleeve for a coat or a dress, tapering from a wide opening at the armhole to a narrow one at the wrist

The Look For Less: Jessica Stroup

90210 actress Jessica Stroup was spotted wearing this cool cobalt blue Jenni Kayne cowl neck dress at the Melrose Place premiere party. She kept it clean by pairing it with a black belt, clutch, and shoes. This shade of blue has been my favorite for the season, and I was thrilled to see something so simple, yet bold. This outfit will look great for a night on the town, or you can dress it down by pairing this look with sandals during the day. I created the look for less below for under a $100!

It's a Cruel Summer

I haven't had much of a summer lately here in San Francisco. The days are splattered with fog, gusts of wind, and cool 60 degree temperature. I got my awesome Gerard Yosca bangle (courtesy of Ideeli) in the mail a couple days back, and had to wear it to work the next day. I usually dress according to mood, and since yesterday was cold, I donned all black. I didn't want to appear too depressing, so I mixed it up with a pearl and chain necklace and of course, my new piece of jewelry!

Do You Fake It?

I recently read that a judge awarded LVMH over $400,000 in damages in a five-year long case against a leather fashion's company, who sold counterfeit handbags with the Louis Vuitton logo. My mom told me that one of her friends went into a Louis Vuitton store in Paris wearing her fake LV. When the sales associate saw it, she simply took scissors and cut the straps off. Now, would you want that to happen to you? Reading about trademark lawsuits made me wonder what's your take on fake handbags? To me, I would rather wear a handbag with no logo at all than a fake Chanel or Prada. Personally, I revere these pieces as "art" and to wear counterfeit goods just wouldn't feel right, even if you can't tell that it's fake. So tell me...do you fake it?

Anna Wintour on David Letterman

Anna Wintour appeared on David Letterman Monday night to sit down and discuss The September Issue, Vogue, and the Fashion Night Out event (she's going to be at Macy's on September 10th!). Although I missed the segment, I was able to find a clip online. Anna showed her sense of humor, proving that she's not completely an ice queen! Anna, you rocked!

Fab Trend: Zip It Up!

I recently found myself drawn to things with zippered detailing. Whether it be on shoes, dresses, or skirts, I've been obsessed with zippers. Not only is it functional, but it also serves as a pretty cool adornment. There is something about zipper detailing that is playful and edgy. I created a mini collage of items that have caught my eye while browsing online. My favorite thing has got to be the Sergio Rossi heels (#6) in "lagoon." The love the bandaged straps and the subtle zipper on the back of the heel. However, I found something oddly similar here. Talk about the look for less! Now, if only I had the paycheck to buy everything featured!

Project Runway: The Red Carpet

The sixth season of Project Runway debuted on Thursday night to record ratings on Lifetime. Although I was a little disappointed that the show is now in LA rather than NYC (and that Lindsay Lohan served as guest judge-really?), the show stayed true to its original format. The first challenge was to design a red-carpet gown; although there were some questionable creations, I think the designers did an all-around good job. My top favorites were by Christopher, Irina, and Ra'mon. Did you watch Project Runway on Thursday?

Shop The Stylista's Closet!

I raided my mom's closet a few weeks back and found all these vintage designer bags from the 1980s. Since she's never wore them in 20 years, I asked if I could sell them online. She thought it would be a great idea since vintage is so "in" right now, especially cross-body/sling bags. I started selling these items to friends only, but am just starting to expand it to everyone else! So far, I'm selling only bags (mainly Gucci and Fendi), but if this is popular enough, I will start selling other items as well. To check out my store, The Stylista's Closet, click here!

Recent Purchases: Cuff Bracelet, Fashion Inspirations

My secret dream is to be photographed for my favorite blog, The Sartorialist. Scott Schuman takes pictures of street fashion in places such as New York and Milan. What I like about The Sartorialist is that Schuman pushes the envelope by taking some pictures that aren't always neccesarily fashionable. He really questions what personal style really means and challenges you to do the same. This book showcases his favorite images, and very limited text. The pictures speak for itself, and to me, it's very inspiring. It has over 500 pages, and I bought it off Amazon for only $16.

When I saw this movie in theaters back in April, I knew I had to own the DVD. I'm waiting for this to be shipped to me from Amazon, since it won't be released until September. I know that this will be something I can watch over and over again without ever getting sick of it. I highly recommend you get this film if you are a true fashion lover! Buy this from Amazon for only $19.99!

I love browsing through online sample sales. I bought this Pearl Cuff by Gerard Yosca from Ideeli.com at their RED HOT sale event. I can't wait to receive this in the mail! I bought it for only $25, originally $230. Like I posted before, Ideeli is only invite only, so use this link to sign up and get great deals!

What I Want Now: Necklush

I recently stumbled across a company called Necklush, and found that they created some fabulous neck wear accessories. Based in Brooklyn, NY, Necklush sells funky, modern, and definitely one-of-a kind pieces. They are made of cotton cut loops, come in a vast array of colors, and you can wear them in several ways. According to the website, you can wear it as a scarf, necklace, or even a headband. Prices start at $21. I'm going to experiment with my Necklush and am definitely going to wear this all year long. I'll post pictures once I get it in the mail! To check out Necklush, go to their website here.

The Look for Less: Emma Roberts

I always thought you have prestigious award shows such as the Oscars and the Golden Globes to dress up in the couture ball gowns. However, for events like the Teen Choice Awards, it's more appropriate to wear hip, fun, and flirty attire. Here, Emma Roberts is wearing a white Monique Lhuillier sheath dress with heavy embellishments and black booties. I could have done without the booties, but they somehow work for her. I found the look for less (dress+shoes) for a grand total of $60! As for the necklaces, feel free to layer as many as you can, but of course, use fashion judgment and do it in moderation.

RACHEL Rachel Roy for Macys!

The office has been buzzing about Rachel Roy's diffusion line, RACHEL Rachel Roy for months, and I'm frankly excited about this newly launched collaboration. This collection is geared towards a modern, fresh, and youthful consumer and is offered at really affordable price points ($59 to $299). The collection is not overly complicated, and embodies sleek, simple, and sophisticated looks. Although there are only
eight looks currently being offered online, the RACHEL Rachel Roy line includes apparel, footwear, and accessories which can be found in stores. Are you digging Rachel Roy's line for Macy's?

Reminiscing about Plaid

After looking at so many fashion magazines and making several trips to the mall, it's obvious that everyone has been "mad about plaid." It's absolutely everywhere, and a definite trend for fall. I've always been a big fan of plaid, and this rebirth of the trend made me reminisce about one of my all-time favorite dresses. I found this awesome Betsey Johnson dress two years ago at Nordstrom's Rack for only $99. I love the sweetheart neckline, and that it's not a loud color. It's unique and it makes a statement without being overpowering. I've only worn it twice, and am dying to wear it again, but sadly, I don't have any events to wear it to. Sadness. Do you have an all-time favorite dress?

My Top 10 Beauty Products Under $30

I've never blogged about beauty products, but I decided to try something new! After all, fashion is beauty, and beauty is fashion, right? I was thinking about my 10 beauty products that I can't live without, and it was a big challenge, since I use so many. However, I narrowed it down to my top 10, and all under $30 each! Click on images to see where you can purchase these items.

[1] Vaseline ($2)
Vaseline is my go-to for everything. Cuts, dry skin, you name it, vaseline cures it all! I love using it to prevent blisters, and to prevent dry, cracked heels on my feet. This is the cheapest, yet best product ever!

[2] L'Oreal Elnett UV Hairspray ($14.99)
This is probably the best hairspray I have ever used. It's not sticky at all, and although some people complain about it, it has a fragrance that I kinda like! I sprayed a bunch of this stuff in my hair once, and my hair wasn't stiff, nor was there any flaking whatsoever. It holds really well, and you can even run your fingers through your hair!

[3] Footpetal's Sweaty Pedi Spray ($9.50)
After spending many hours in flats or heels, my feet get sweaty. Now, before I leave for work, I spray Footpetal's Sweaty Pedi and I'm good to go. It reduces sweat significantly!

[4] Hazeline Snow ($4)
I have some dark spots on my face as a result of committing a beauty "no" by picking at my face, which has resulted in some scarring. Thus, I discovered Hazeline show. I dab a little of this whitening cream on the spots before I go to bed, and my spots are noticeably lighter the next day. It's not harsh on your skin at all and it's good for all skin types.

[5] Rosebud lip balm at Sephora ($7)
I love this lip balm from Sephora. It leaves my lips soft for hours, and it's not oily, unlike some lip products. The best thing is, it smells like strawberries!

[6] Oil Control Lotion by MAC ($29.50)
I only use this product in the evening before I go out dancing. I sweat easily, my face will shine within an hour, and my makeup will start to look a little sloppy. I got this at MAC and it does wonders-my makeup stays put! It works for up to 8 hours too.

[7] Heat Tamer Spray by TRESemme ($4.99)
I'm a blowdry and flat iron type of girl, so my hair is prone to major damage from all that heat. I spray this all over my head before I blowdry and flat iron. It's not sticky or heavy at all, and I haven't experienced any damaged/dry hair.

[8] Perfect Eye & Lip Makeup Remover by Kose ($15)
I get this eye makeup remover from my grandmother in Asia. She ships several bottles at a time, because she knows I love this stuff. This is the only eye makeup remover that I have experienced where it removes my eye makeup instantly. I usually have to wipe and tug at my eyes to get off all the eyeliner and mascara. However, with this Kose eye makeup remover, I am able to remove everything within seconds. Amazing.

[9] Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets ($5)
I have a pretty oily face, so I find myself taking oil absorbing sheets and dabbing my face by mid-afternoon. I don't use Clean & Clear specifically, but generally, oil absorbing sheets are my savior. I discovered this trick--if you want to save some money or if you're in desperate need of oil control sheets, toilet seat covers in women's bathrooms do the same thing. I tried it once, and it really does work! It absorbs just as well!

[10] EltaMD Sunscreen and Moisturizer ($24)
I'm a major advocate of sunscreen, especially on the face. Not only do I use it to prevent skin cancer, but who wants their face to look wrinkly and leathery? I apply sunscreen religiously, even though it's foggy outside, because UV rays are still in the air. I discovered this sunscreen and moisturizer (love 2-in-1's!) combo from a doctor. It is not sticky at all, and it has a strong SPF. It's light and you can still apply makeup. The drawback is, you can only purchase this from your dermatologist.
